Why have I received a letter from Transpacific Debt Purchase?

Transpacific Debt Purchase buys debt from banks and other institutions; as such it is likely that we have received your details in connection with an acquired overdue account.

Why didn’t the lender inform me?

The Credit Agreement you signed with the lender upon opening your account allows the lender to sell your account and all rights under that Credit Agreement to another company. The lender is not required to give you advance notice of its intention to sell your account, however the lender would have sent you a notice at the time of sale, as required by law, to inform you of the sale of your account to us. This notice would have been sent to the last address that you had notified to the lender as your postal address.

What could happen if I don't pay?

This depends greatly on the individual account and circumstances. Possible consequences may include an unresolved default remaining on your credit file - which can affect your ability to obtain future credit, repossession of purchased goods or other legal action to enforce payment.

Even if you think you cannot pay the debt, you should not ignore it. Taking steps to reduce the outstanding balance can avoid the debt becoming a bigger obstacle down the track.
